Retread Technician (Winnipeg Retread Plant)

Job Overview:
  • Complete initial inspection of tires by identifying previous repairs, marking tire injuries, indicate type of repair required, identify rejects and stage the tires for production.
  • Complete buffing and skiving of tires though safe operation of the buffing machine, power hand tools and cement spraying equipment.
  • Complete tire section repair by following tag instruction and changing if necessary, buffing injury areas and inserting repairs or rubber.
  • Operate the tire building machine and power hand tools to efficiently complete tire building by properly selecting and installing treads.
  • Envelop tires, install rims or locks and operate chambers to complete rimming and curing function of retreads. This includes following all established retread specifications.
  • Complete a thorough final inspection of tires by assessing flow, cure and repairs, removing staples, buffing rough edges, painting, tagging  and preparing tires for shipping. This includes identifying production issues.
  • Ensure all equipment, tools and supplies are returned in good working condition to proper location, and immediately reporting any concerns, or damaged equipment or tools to Supervisor for repair or replacement.
  • Assist in inventory management through documentation processes and annual inventory counts.

  • Mechanical and/or rubber processing plant experience preferred.
  • High school or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • A quality service focus; this includes good communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to complete defined procedures.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Initiative in recognizing opportunities for improvement and efficiency.
  • Basic computer skills to successfully complete required learning and safety courses and achieve certification where required.
  • Ability to consistently lift 25 kilograms.
